Placing Shelving Accessories In A Freezer Trailer For Efficiency And Safety
A rented freezer trailer lets you transport and keep cool all the supplies you need to spend a day serving food at a fair or outdoor concert. What some people don't realize is that these rented trailers sometimes don't come with shelving; those are accessories that people can rent along with the trailer, but they have to request the shelving be added. This does give people a chance to customize the interior of the trailer a little bit as the shelves need to be placed so that the food stays cold and anyone retrieving items from the trailer stays safe.
Don't Skimp
While you might not want too many shelves making the interior of the trailer look crowded, you don't want to skimp. With too few shelves, you might end up having to pack goods tightly together on the shelves you do get, and that can impede the flow of cold air around those items. That makes it harder for them to cool down if they were warmer than freezing when you placed them in the trailer. Make sure you ask for enough shelves to be placed in the trailer so that you have plenty of room for all the goods you need to transport. The shelves are often prefab storage-shelf units with a set number of shelves, but you can get one placed on one side, have them placed on both sides of the trailer, and if the trailer is long, have multiple shelving units added in a line.
Watch Your Head
Heavy stuff needs to go on the bottom shelves, and light stuff needs to go on the top shelves. Don't let those bars at the front of each shelf fool you; those are there to keep items in while the trailer is moving and while no one is inside the trailer, but when the trailer is parked and people are moving in and out with supplies, you do not want to have items fall on you if the trailer is shaken. That can happen even if you're not in a seismically active area; all that needs to happen is, say, a car sideswipes the trailer. Light stuff on the top shelves so that if anything falls, it's a roll of paper towels and not bottles.
Measure Vertically as Well as Lengthwise
The company you rent the trailer from might have only a particular size of shelving unit. But if they offer different sizes with different heights between the shelves, take a good look at what you plan to transport. You could fit more in if you get shelving where the height between the shelves is shorter and the unit has a greater number of shelves.
You will need enough room to unload shelves on one side without colliding with objects on shelves on the other side of the trailer. Measure carefully so that your rental and day at the fair or concert go well.
